There are two scholarship programs available to full-time university students seeking a major or minor in accounting, business administration, finance, or criminal justice programs in the Pacific Northwest. The following is a quick comparison of the two scholarships. More details are outlined in the links below.
The ACFE Foundation's Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship Program grants 20-30 scholarships per year, ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Eligibility is based on full time students at a four-year college or university. The students must major or minor in accounting, finance, business administration, or criminal justice.
Refer to the ACFE Foundation's Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship Program website for details and deadlines pertaining to the 2023-2024 award.
The ACFE PNW Chapter's Joseph R. Dervaes Scholarship Program grants one scholarship per year of $1,500 to a deserving student filling the same requirements as the Foundation requires, but the student must be attending a qualifying four-year college or university in the State of Washington.
To be considered for the 2023-2024 PNW Chapter Joseph R. Dervaes Scholarship Award, applicants must email their scholarship package by March 31, 2024.
Students interested in either of these two scholarship programs should contact the Chapter Board by e-mail at info@pnwafce.org for additional information.

The ACFE PNW Chapter's Joseph R. Dervaes Scholarship is named after the founder and former president of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the ACFE. Joe was a fraud fighter for over 40 years, giving 25 years in service to the Chapter during that time. He founded the chapter in 1993 and is the chapter’s only President Emeritus. In 1995 he was awarded the first Chapter Distinguished Achievement award and is only one of four people to attend 25 consecutive ACFE Annual Fraud Conferences. In 2021, Joe was inducted into the ACFE's Hall of Fame.
The eligibility and application procedures for the scholarship program of the PNW Chapter's Joseph R. Dervaes Scholarship are similar to the ACFE Foundation’s Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship Program, except the applicant must be a full-time student attending a 4-year college or university in the State of Washington (in-person or virtual).
** Note: Though we use the national scholarship forms, it is not required that students apply for the national scholarship, although we recommend applying for both.
Application Period Opens – September 2023
Application Deadline – March 31, 2024
Winner Announcement – Late April 2024
Scholarship Disbursement to Student’s University – Late April / Early May 2024
To be considered for the 2023-2024 PNW Chapter Joseph R. Dervaes Scholarship Award, applicants must email their ACFE Foundation's Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship Application, transcript(s), 2 letters of recommendation and student resume by March 31, 2024. Though we use the national scholarship forms, it is not required that students apply for the national scholarship, although we recommend applying for both.
Once a student's scholarship application is received by the Chapter, the Chapter Board of Officers, serving as the Chapter Scholarship Committee, will review all applications and select a candidate for the Chapter's student scholarship winner. Accordingly, the Chapter Board of Officers will then select the next most eligible student to receive the Chapter's student scholarship of $1,500.
If that candidate wins an ACFE Foundation Ritchie-Jennings Memorial scholarship award (one scholarship award per student for their entire university study years), they are ineligible for the Chapter's student scholarship award for that year. However, they may apply for the Chapter’s student scholarship program in a subsequent year (again, one scholarship award per student during their entire university study years).
Application and attachments can be sent via email to info@pnwacfe.org.
